Mod Podge Heart Art
I've had such fun decorating and crafting for Valentine's Day this year!
Luckily, my projects have been very inexpensive and fairly quick. Yay!!
I am so excited to be participating in The Scoop's Valentine's Day Tour. The ideas this week have been amazing. If you have missed any be sure to check out the others!
I really debated on what to share with you today, and I decided on my Mod Podge Heart Art.
It all started with left over wood from another project.
Not pictured that you will also need are a wood stain of your choice. My cans looked so horribly bad from use that I left out of the picture. I used a custom mix of Minwax stain in weathered oak and dark walnut to get this color. The wood was stained prior to joining the boards together.
I failed to take pictures of putting the boards together with my Kreg Jig. Here's a photo from another project. Basically a Kreg Jig easily allows you to join wood together like with this sign so it is a nice, flat surface on the back. I'll show a Kreg Jig tutorial soon. You could also attach the pieces of wood together with two thinner strips of wood in the back. Kreg Jig is so easy to use, that my teen daughter drilled these holes with the assistance of her dad. I decided to leave the look of the uneven wood opposed to shaving off small amounts to make it all look uniform….kind of rustic meets glam.
I had a foam heart on hand from the craft store. I used it only to trace the outline in pencil. You could use any kind of heart from clip art to graphics found online.
Next, you will simply fill in the heart with Mod Podge with an artist or foam brush. Brushes clean easily with soap and water.
All filled in and ready for glitter
Apply a generous amount of glitter completely covering the white Mod Podge. Let dry for about 10 minutes and shake off the excess. Don't throw the extra glitter away! Put as much of it as you can back in your glitter container.
Here it is with the excess glitter shaken off. Now, you could leave it like this, but I prefer sealing it with a coat of Mod Podge on top so you don't have glitter constantly flaking off!
Apply a top coat of the Mod Podge. It will dry clear.
Let it dry and you are ready to display!
You could easily apply the glittered heart to other items: plates, chalk painted thrift store platters or purchased wood shapes from the craft store! Many ideas are possible!
I was quite surprised when I discovered Valentine's Day candy corn!!!! Not just for Halloween anymore!

Glitter and mod podge are the perfect combination! Happy to be on the Valentine Home Tour with you.
Your glitter heart is so cute. I need to remember your tip to Mod Podge over a glitter project to keep the glitter from getting all over.
