Farmhouse Fall Kitchen
Can I just say that I was giddy with excitement today when I purchased a box of Pumpkin Spice Cheerios! I can't wait to try them! Pumpkin Spice is popping up everywhere. It has me yearning for fall!
It's positively my favorite season……warm fires, afternoon tea, jeans, boots, scarves and cozy sweaters! It may not be exactly that yet with the heat of the south, but I've got the interior of our home feeling a bit like fall.
Welcome to the bHOME Fall Inspiration Tour!
If you are visiting from Julie at Little Farmstead, then a big hearty welcome to you!
Last week I shared our fall family room. We are loving the slightly new look with the sofas. You can tour it HERE. It is open to our farmhouse kitchen through a wide archway.
I believe this is the first time that I have shared our kitchen since I finished repainting it. All of the trim used to be a deep sage green, with green walls and green cabinetry. Everything that was green is now a creamy white. The green walls are now a nice warm grey color. I did leave the white washed cypress walls as is. This is still a favorite room in our home. It's cozy and has maintained a casual French Farmhouse style.
In the past, I have gone with more traditional fall colors in the kitchen. This year I wanted to go a bit more subdued. My rug has a lot of color in it so I thought it would be a nice change. I simply added a burlap runner and built the centerpiece from there. Everything is faux. I don't have to worry about pumpkins rotting and ruining the runner and table. (Believe me….I learned to do this the hard way!)
The white pumpkins weren't always white! They are heavy wooden pumpkins in traditional colors. I painted the with an antique white by General Finishes Milk Paint. I left the stems and golden leaves as is. They play nicely with the gold peeking through the white wash that I did on the very golden candlesticks.
I've had the candlesticks for years, but they've been hidden in the back of a closet. They are perfect white washed for a casually elegant look. They look like they could be handed down from a grandparent. Love them now!
It's really amazing what a little paint can do. Even the little pumpkins were painted the blue-green color. They were less than a $1 each from Walmart!
I went very simple with the place-settings. Simple white thrift store dishes with a neutral napkin and a smaller plate in the same blue-green color way as the little pumpkins. No pattern overload lets the centerpiece shine.
The grapevine wreath at each place setting was so simple and very inexpensive to do with 1 spool of ribbon and a pack of burlap leaves.
A heavy valance used to grace this large window. Now it's open, light and airy with a newly completed Groceries & Provisions DIY sign.
Simplicity is key to my fall decor this year. Both of the kids are now in college and for some reason I just needed simple. The empty nest has been quite the adjustment!
Our casual dining area is a nice mix of high-end, budget, vintage, antiques, DIY projects and thrift store makeovers! That is the way that we have decorated our entire home. This white washed console makeover is a favorite thrift store find.
This is the little nook off the kitchen leading upstairs. You can find my Ikea Chest Hack and Grain Sack DIY Art are affordable projects for the home.
It was so much work getting my white and distressed pine kitchen. All of the white used to be green! Completely changed the look with paint!
I simply added a small “Gather” sign from Hobby Lobby over the stove. Simple, simple, simple!
I used 1 blue-green pumpkin here under the wire cloche.
