food

First off all, I make these year round……not just at Christmas!

ingredients

My ingredients came from Walmart and Aldi.

bread

You could use small Hawaiian rolls, but my family doesn't care for them. You can find them at Aldi. I typically purchase the Pepperidge Farm Party Rolls. I was pleasantly surprised to see that Walmart now has their version. They were great. You'll need 3 packs.

onion

I chopped my onion in may small mini-chopper. It gets the pieces quite fine which I prefer with these sandwiches.

food mixture

You'll blend the softened butter (room temp), mustard, onion, poppy seed and worcheshire together. I used my Kitchen Aid mixer

bread

Slice bread like this.

bread

Divide the mixture amongst all 6 slabs of bread.

bread

Spread over all sides.

sandwiches

The boiled ham in rectangular packs works perfectly. Use 4-6 slices on the bottom part of each section.

sandwiches

Top with 4-8 slices of swiss cheese.

sandwiches

Place the tops of the bread onto each bottom slab.

sandwiches

Cover with foil and bake at 400 degrees for about 15 minutes or until cheese is melted and feel warmed. You can remove the foil after 15 minutes to brown slightly for a minute or 2.

sandwiches

I'll make these for the weekend and place them back in the bags without baking in oven. They stay in fridge well. Then just remove a bag and cook as needed over the weekend.

Prep Time: 25 minutes
Cook Time: 15 minutes
Total Time: 40 minutes

Ingredients

  • 3 packages of Pepperidge Farm Party Rolls
  • 1/2 pound of butter softened to room temp (2 sticks)
  • 3 Tablespoons Poppy Seeds
  • 3 Tablespoons mustard
  • 1 teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 small to medium onion
  • 1 pound of boiled ham
  • 3/4 pound of Swiss cheese

Instructions

  1. finely chop onion
  2. in a mixer combine onion, butter, poppy seed, mustard and worcestershire sauce
  3. Slice bread as one piece to create 2 large slabs
  4. Divide the butter mixture equally on each of the 6 slabs
  5. Spread the butter mixture
  6. place the ham on the bottom section of the slabs. Use 4-6 slices
  7. place the swiss cheese on top using 4-8 slices
  8. Place the top slab of the buns on top
  9. Place on baking sheets and cover completely with foil.
  10. Bake at 400 for about 15 minutes or until cheese is melted and ham heated.
  11. You may wish to brown a minute without the foil after heating.
  12. Slice the grooves of the bread with a bread knife using light pressure so the filling doesn't spill out.
  13. Enjoy and watch them devoured!

Notes

Saw with minimal pressure with a bread knife! Don't have to cook all at once if not using as appetizers! They will keep well in fridge for a day or 2.
