Patriotic Front Porch
I hope you guys are enjoying summer! It's in full swing here. Looking forward to heading to the beach soon.
I am so very excited about today's post because I have NEVER decorated the front porch for the 4th of July or any patriotic holiday. In reality, we are always at the beach and just never took the effort.
Amber from Follow The Yellow Brick Home asked me if I'd like to participate in a Patriotic Porch Tour! Be sure to check out her blog. She's very talented!
I was really excited because I've been wanting to do something like this for years now…..just haven't followed through.
I spent a whopping $2 on this Patriotic Porch because I already had things in the garage.
If you are stopping by from Poofing the Pillow with Stacey then welcome to Our Southern Home. Stacey has a beautiful blog and home!
Welcome to our Patriotic Porch!
First of all, I had to get past the notion that my entire porch had to scream red, white and blue…. That I had to have red flowers, pillows and accessories.
I am here to tell you that you do NOT!
I think you can weave your country's pride into your home with what you have.
I had 3 packs of simple flags on wooden stakes that were 2 flags per pack in our garage. I bought them probably 4 years ago with hopes of doing a patriotic porch. I purchased them at our local Wilson's Five and Dime. I do remember that!
My husband and our college kids recently cleaned the garage out, and I was crossing my fingers that they hadn't donated them. Score!!! I found them. I don't remember the cost, but couldn't have been much from where they came from.
Patriotic Decor Used
- 6 small flags for pots
- 2- 9 foot buntings from Dollar Tree
- 1 large Flag
- Blue and white china
- Blue and white napkins
At first, I thought I was going to have to go and replace the wreath that I just made! You can find the details in my Thrift Store Basket Wreath HERE. I decided against it. I made this wreath with the intention of using it all summer. I wanted to share with you that YOU can incorporate the red, white and blue with what you have. I had pink flowers in the planters after all so I knew I wasn't changing that.
I am happy with it and wondering why I waitied so long to decorate a Patriotic Porch! It feels fresh, festive and oh, so easy!
The older I get, the more I crave easier and simpler with my holiday decorating! I've learned that for me….less is more! Less to store and less to do.
The way that I decorate our porch and home is with this eclectic mix!
- Thrift store items that I sometimes makeover
- vintage decor
- antiques
- high-end items
- big box stores
- Amazon
The mirror was part of our bedroom suit. We got a new mirror for it to break up the matching look. I simply painted it.
2 DIY thrift store makeovers here
See that cute little patriotic bunting? $1 from the Dollar Tree! I splurged on 2, one for each French door. That carries the patriotic theme across the porch.
I contemplated covering the pink with pillows with red fabric like I did for my porch Christmas pillows. You can literally change your pillows in 5 minutes…..I timed it! I decided to leave them. Pink is just lighter red….right?
That cute little bunting tied perfectly to the shutter hinges.
I brought out our summer shells from beach trips past. I LOVE the beach! I corralled them in this thrift store DIY project, Farmhouse Tiered Stands.
Here is the other side of the porch. I bought that flag right after 9/11. I actually got teary eyed as I hung it. I remember to this day where I was. I was in my son's kindergarten class helping students with their reading journals.
I'm really into blues these days so fortunately, I already had the dishes, napkins and the hydrangeas are from our yard. This isn't a tablecloth. I love using throw blankets as tablecloths and runners. It doesn't have to fit perfectly. Lay it askew for interest.
Trays are great for the center of a dining table. You can remove it quickly to bring everything back inside.
Just these simple 6 flags have big impact!
I have had a lot of fun creating my Patriotic Entertaining Shop on Amazon. It's got everything from decor, decorating, games and fashion to look cute at your event! You can visit it here or by clicking the above photo.

Your porch looks wonderful Christy! I could sit out there for hours just sipping tea and chatting.
Thanks so much, Pamela! I’d love to have you visit!
You are so creative, I love all of it. Your front door basket is such a novel idea, would really like to see a close up of it. Thanks for sharing.

I love your porch! Are those wooden shutters you used as blinds? I love that idea.
Thanks, Nikki!
Your porch is a dream! I love your simple touches for the season. That mirror and styling by the one end is so gorgeous and your table at the other is just, WOW!
Looks perfect! And you have an awesome front porch!! LOVE the brick!!
Thanks, Melissa!
First, your porch is so gorgeous, without any special decor at all, but you have decorated it lovely for the holiday! I am surprised you have never decorated it for the Fourth before, but I certainly understand when you were not there. I hope you enjoyed the task! My absolutely favorite thing about your porch is those shutters!! Exactly what I would like to add to a couple of sections of our porch. The flag hanging against the shutters is lovely! I am so glad to have joined you in this fun hop!
You have a gorgeous front porch, and the addition of the patriotic touches is perfect for summer. Love your front steps and that you have a spot for dining. Great job! Happy 4th of July!
Oh my word your porch is stunning! I love every single little thing you did. I especially loved the blue plates you used. My mom has the same ones! Thank you for the inspiration!
Thanks, Kelly!!
I am in love with your porch, Christy! I could sit out there all summer. It looks so peaceful and serene. I love the way that you worked with what you already had to create this space. I am all about budget friendly decorating! Have a great time at the beach!! Heather @ Beauty For Ashes Home

Your home is absolutely gorgeous! I love all of your patriotic decor! Everything looks beautiful! It has been so much fun being on this tour with you!
When I saw your first photo my draw dropped open. It’s gorgeous! I love the decor and especially that door decor! And I’m not sure I’d want to get anything else done if I had the option to sit and hang on your porch and eat at that adorable table. It’s all beautiful and I’m so honored to be on the tour with y’all.
Thanks so very much, Cindy! Now to get it ready for fall!
Christy, your front porch is amazing! I love all the brick, especially the front steps! The gnome Budda is precious, and I love your breakfast tablescape! So happy to be part of the Patriotic Porches Tour with you!
Thanks bunches, Michelle!
Adding Old Glory to your existing summer porch decor is brilliant. It truly is a lovely accent. Your patriotic tablescape is just gorgeous!
Seriously though….everything about this porch!!!!!
I am in love with your swoonworthy porch and all your beautiful patriotic touches! That gnome Buddha is too funny and adds a little bit of whimsy and fun to your magazine worthy space. He is in the zen zone and who wouldn’t be on your gorgeous porch? The ferns our perfect for your southern home. I love your little shabby table, mirror and all the accessories. There needs to be a “pin all” button!
Thank you so much for joining the Patriotic Porches tour. Have a great summer!

Christy, your porch is stunning! Well, it’s pretty all year but with the patriotic things you’ve added, it’s just perfect. You really can’t go wrong with a few flags added to the mix. Happy 4th of July to you and your family.
