Saturdays on the Porch

Thanks for sharing!

This week's Saturdays on the Porch will feature my favorite Instagram accounts, my weekly manicure, favorite shows, and fashion inspiration.

Hi, sweet friends!

Welcome to Saturdays on the Porch #3!

I hope you've had a great week. It's been a very busy one over here.

Posts this week!

White Sweater | Jeans | Flats |Earrings |Topiaries (still on sale) | Blue Rug | Similar Mat | Similar Lanterns

Here are the details of my outfit!

First of all, my topiaries have been on a drastic sale for over a week! We paid $170 each and they are $99 each! You can read more about them HERE in this post.

The sweater is a favorite on Amazon with many excellent reviews. It comes in many colors some of which will be pretty for spring. I am wearing a small. It's a loose fit with a high-low hem for covering your bum which makes it great for leggings. I could totally wear a medium if I wanted a bigger, longer look. I love this pea green for spring

I have the white in the sweater and usually wear this tank-like bra underneath it. This is a go-to bra for me. It is very comfortable. I wear it a lot with lower-cut sweaters because it looks like a tank top.

The jeans were a gift from NYDJ last fall. They are amazing. I love the stretchy feel and fit. You really don't feel like you are wearing them. Here is a link to my exact color from their site. They are expensive so look out for sales and coupons. I did find them on Amazon for A LOT cheaper. I couldn't find the exact color match. I am wearing a size 8. They stay in place but are not tight. Read all the details on the NYDJ site then head to Amazon to purchase cheaper.

The ballet flats in the green leopard have been fun. They are a great alternative to the pricier Rothy's. I've never owned a pair of Rothy's. Ashlyn got a pair of these Rothy's Leopard Boots for Christmas last year. She swears by them. They are a perfect fit for her. It's hard to find shoes in her size 11 that aren't too wide. (She's close to 6'1”.) We sometimes have to pay a bit more for her to get a good fit. They are like wearing boot tennis shoes. My flats are a Sketchers alternative. I ordered my true size 8. They were a little big so I added an insert. I wouldn't go do a lot of crazy walking in them, but for running errands or dinner out…..they are great!

What I've been Working On

I've been working on cleaning out the refrigerator and getting it organized for a Container Store post. This will probably go live next week. I've had a 6-month contract with them that ends with this project. It has been the best ever. It has really motivated us to get our home cleaned out and organized. I can assure you….organizing works!

I'm going to jump back into painting. I need to finish up the woodwork in the mudroom, dining room, and kitchen window. THEN I plan to repaint the guest room. It's been on my list forever to give this room a mini-makeover. I can't wait to start showing this room on the blog.

Back in the fall, I purchased a full-length mirror for the family room. I left it leaning and unfortunately……Jack knocked it over and it shattered. Totally my fault. I literally just hit the purchase button on a new one. I've been searching forever. I'm limited on size because it's going between molding. I found it on Kirkland's site. I was hesitant because it was way more than I wanted to pay at $299. Even with the 20% off coupon, it was still $239. That 20% coupon is good for the weekend if you are interested in shopping over there. I jumped over to Wayfair to see what they had. Y'all it was $194.99 over there. So I purchased it. Some reviews say this isn't as gold in person. I like the shape so if the gold isn't just right, I'll do a little DIY magic on it.

Want a little Saturday laugh. Look at the customer photos uploaded on the site for my new mirror on Wayfair. Find the one with the large white bed and the mirrors on either side! We all laughed so hard!

This week's Manicure

manicure

I've been giving myself a DIY manicure on a regular weekly basis. I can tell my nails are stronger because of it. You can read all my steps and products used in my DIY At-Home Manicure HERE. I use Sally Hansen's 2-step gel polish. You have to use both steps to activate it. This week's color is Street Flair in a pretty lavender with step 2. Don't forget my topcoat!

On a side note: I had 3 rings resized last week at the jewelers. One ring my husband bought me for an early 30th wedding anniversary present while on a cruise. It was way too big. I've been wearing it like that for over a year anchored in place by my wedding set. The other 2 rings, I haven't worn in years on my right-hand because they were too small. It's so odd in that my left hand has stayed the same at a 4-1/2, but I'm now a 5-1/2 on my right hand up for a 4-3/4. Well……I was floored at the price! It cost me $195 to have 3 rings resized. Is this standard? I went on and did it. It's our local jeweler that we've used for years. The high price was on the 2 that had to be increased. They said it was due to the gold that was added. I just hope they don't have to be increased in size down the road! LOL! Needless to say, I was shocked and not happy with the price, but overjoyed to wearing a favorite ring again.

Favorite Lip Colors

I Chose | Decide

Also on OSH!  Saturdays on the Porch #39

I started wearing this L'oreal lip stain last summer when looking for something that wouldn't transfer like a regular lipstick onto masks. I researched and came across these. These are the only 2 colors that I have. I wear the Decide color by far the most. It's a bright cheery color without being over the top. It's what I am wearing in this photo. It still transfers a bit, but nothing like a regular lipstick. The best thing is that it does not dry out my lips.

On a fun note, I am partnering again with the affordable Boutique Rugs. They are sending me this rug. I'm pretty excited to use it in the family room and move the blue rug to our bedroom for spring and summer.

What I'm Watching

I won't lie, we are big TV watchers at night. We have Netflix, Hulu (share with the kid's student account), HBO Max, Amazon Prime, Showtime, Apple TV and our son subscribes to Disney Plus. Yeah, that's a lot, but we don't really go to the movies.

I just finished Virgin River on Netflix. Mom and I started watching it when I was with her after her knee replacement surgery last summer. I just finished season 2. What a cliffhanger! It's so good! It's about a nurse practitioner who moves to a small, remote town to work in a doctor's office after her husband has passed away. She's looking for a new life. Mel's cabin is absolutely gorgeous! I hope to start reading the series soon

Wow! Firefly Lane was a surprise show. The name sounds like a Hallmark show, but it's not. I really enjoyed the first season which just came out. It follows 2 friends when they were younger in high school, in their college, and young adult years onto their 40s. I really like it. Warning: Some language and little cover your eyes moments (not bad).

If you love to travel and all things Italy, check out Stanley Tucci's new series, Searching for Italy on CNN. It's a beautiful show and has us wanting to try new Italian dishes.

Another surprise show was Truth Be Told on Apple TV. It stars Octavia Spencer. She's a crime podcaster solving a past crime in which she helped to convict the guy played by Aaron Paul.

We just started The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. I can't believe we are just starting this show on Amazon Prime. If you have a Prime membership, all of their content is included. This show is amazing. So funny! Again, I was surprised by the humor and language for the era, but definitely worth a watch!

What are you watching?

Instagram is great for any kind of inspiration. You can search any hashtag for ideas. I really gravitate toward traditional interiors with blue and white touches in fabrics and chinoiserie. Here are a few favorites from decor to fashion! Please join me on Instagram!

January 21, 2021, was the last color of my hair. I'm getting a little antsy as you can tell in the photo above that the gray around my temples is coming through. I'm going to give it a go and see. I may go back to color, but going to try.

I hope you have a fabulous weekend! Next weekend…..I'll be adding a fun mood board to the Saturdays on the Porch where I'll be giving one look for affordable design inspiration.

    1. Thanks! Sounds like my daughter. We share colors. She’s been living at home from college since last March due to covid. I’m sure when she moves out on her own, my stash will disappear! LOL! Keeping mine painted plus taking biotin has really made my nails stronger.

  1. I am sold on the Sally Hanson gel polish since you recommended it on your first porch post. Mine lasted about 9 days. I’m using the color “Sheer Happiness” which is a great neutral. Can’t wait to try more colors!

I love hearing from you!
