Saturdays on the Porch #12

Thanks for sharing!

Saturdays on the Porch #12 featuring this casual black dress from Target, Old Navy finds, the guest bedroom, & a bleached dresser for Woods.

Happy beautiful Saturday to you!

It has been hot here in the south….90 degrees hot! We finally had rain last night. The yard and our containers so appreciate this. Woods, the flower pot waterer for the summer, was overjoyed with the rain.

I've been working in the guest room this week while Ashlyn has been working on the dresser. We did carve out a little time for a quick shopping trip to Old Navy.

We had our favorite salmon dish for dinner this week. I love sheet pan meals! I can't tell you the last time that we ate inside. We've gotten into our regular routine of eating dinner on the screened porch.

This is my second Target dress for summer. I actually wore this out yesterday with Ashlyn on a quick trip to Old Navy. I ordered a few things for Ashlyn, and we had to do a return. It's such a comfy dress in a thicker gauze-type fabric. The best part is that it has pockets! It can be dressed up or down. I'll mainly be wearing it with flats.

It's great with flats for running errands!

It's a little bit shorter than the white Target dress from last week.

Fit Tip: I am wearing a size small in the dress. It is a generous fit. Size up 1/2 a size in these flats.

Old Navy Finds

Yesterday, Ashlyn and I had to run to Old Navy to do a few returns for her. She's been helping so much around the house and with the blog that I surprised her with some new clothes. Old Navy carries tall sizes which are great for her touch of 6 feet narrow frame.

We returned a dress that was so cute on her but just too see-through. She didn't want to wear a slip and I didn't blame her. A pair of white shorts was too thin as well. This top was so adorable on her, but she didn't like it. It was a bit too frilly for her. I tried. LOL!

I tried on a few things but didn't buy anything.

I have serious regrets about not purchasing this dress. I don't need it but loved it. It's one of those dresses that I can wear now through the fall with the colors. It would be cute in the fall with ballet flats and a denim jacket

It was so comfortable and feminine.

Fit Tip: I am wearing a size medium

Please note that these were the shoes that I had on with my black dress. If I had planned on this try-on session, I'd have worn a neutral shoe.

This dress just looks like a garden party and it has pockets. It would be so cute with red accessories for the 4th of July!

Fit Tip: I am wearing a size medium

Palm Print Dress

I love this print! This dress is really comfortable with the knit slub fabric. This is a dress that I'd wear at home or at the beach. This dress is in another color with sleeves

Fit Tip: I am wearing a medium

High Waisted Shorts | Ruffled Top

While Ashlyn would have preferred the tall size in this top, the regular version is adorable. If you notice, it's the same print as the above dress. She just tried on these shorts for fit. She wanted the light ecru color, but it was sold out.

While we were in the store, I checked another local store and they had them. I purchased it right then online. I was able to pick them up curbside 2 hours later. Love that feature. Ashlyn was heading to Charleston for the weekend so I didn't mind picking them up for her while she worked on the dresser a bit more and got ready to leave.

Fit Tip: She is wearing a small in the top and a size 4 in the shorts.

High-waisted Shorts | Knit Slub Tank

This is the same fabric and pattern as the dress that I tried above. She tried the dress on in a small, and it was too big on the shoulders. She did get these 2 tops. I can not find this exact top on the website to link. I linked another color above. It may just not be on the site yet. I'll keep trying.

Fit Tip: Size 4 in the shorts and a size small in the tank

Dresser Updates for Woods

dresser

This is the dresser that we bought for Woods off of Facebook Marketplace for $309. We are paying Ashlyn $100 to strip it (plus I surprised her with some new clothes).

dresser

Here is stripping progress! She is actually finished with the stripping and sanding of the dresser. She just has to do some finish sanding on the drawer fronts. The next step is to bleach the wood. I'll be sharing a blog post on it soon.

She worked on it at her leisure all week. The best stripper is Jasco

You'll notice that the wood is 2 different types. It is cherry and pecan.

Guest Bedroom Room Progress

bedroom

This guest bedroom is quite the painting chore. I now have 2 walls completely done!

guest bedroom

The wall and trim color is Simply White by Benjamin Moore.

You'll notice that the curtains in this photo are a bit shorter. I did not like the existing color of the curtains with the walls. I decided that before buying new curtains, that I'd try to wash these with bleach.

I ran it through 1 regular cycle with Tide and bleach. I then ran it through a second white cycle with Tide and bleach. They definitely lightened up, and I'm happier with the color now. I've only done one window. They did shrink which I expected. I am going to purchase rings with hooks. This will add additional length to the curtains. If they end up not looking right, that's ok. I'll just order the same inexpensive Ikea curtains that I have in our master.
