Saturdays on the Porch #47
It may not look like it, but Jack welcomes you to this week's Saturdays on the Porch from the beach. Ha, ha!
We just wrapped up week #1 at the beach house. We will be here through next week. We typically stay for the first 2 weeks of August. I really love August at the beach. It's HOT, but not quite as busy as summer is starting to wind down.
We've had fantastic weather thus far. Every day we go on a 3-mile beach walk. It's a great workout walking in the sand. Bentley lives for it!
This coverup is really great. It is true to my typical size medium. It is very good quality.
It's a bit higher in the front and lower in the back.
It comes in several colorways.
Fit Tip: True to a size medium. The hat I linked, I own, and love. I haven't been able to find an exact link to the one I'm wearing. These Croc flip-flops are great for beach sand. They're true to size.
Bentley lives for these walks!
It's always such a sight seeing the cargo barges come through Southport en route to Wilmington.
Our backyard has a marsh view of Southport, NC.
Yesterday morning, Ashlyn went to our favorite thrift and vintage stores on Oak Island. We came across this amazing screen art.
She bought this and a poster for their new apartment.
We stuck it on this blank wall at the beach house for now. She can't wait to either hang in their dining area or over one of their 2 beds.
It really has a cool eclectic, oreintal vibe.
She bought this framed poster for their kitchen. Ashlyn and Tim have had such fun decorating their first apartment together on a tight budget.
If you haven't seen this piece yet, check it out HERE. Ashlyn turned the top of this $30 hutch into a bar cabinet.

Wedding Updates
Ashlyn's wedding is approaching fast!
We are working on a lot of the last-minute details.
I got my dress!!!! You can see it in last week's Saturdays on the Porch.
I ordered these silver sandals to wear with the dress. They come in many colors. I didn't want a super high heel. I am so over really high heels. They are more than I wanted to pay, but I will have these shoes on from about 2 pm until after 10 pm the day of. I wanted something that would be comfortable. I will probably also add these metatarsal pads for extra comfort. I add these to all my heels.
Ashlyn ordered these to give to Tim as a gift at the rehearsal dinner.
We ordered this guest book. It is smaller and will be a nice memory for the day.
She ordered this patch to place in the tie that her dad will be wearing.
She ordered these PJs to give her bridesmaids as gifts to wear while getting ready for the wedding.
This locket is going on her bouquet to honor her late grandparents.
We are still trying to decide on a wedding favor. Thinking of something like this.
This disposable set of pretty cake plates and forks for the wedding.
In the Kitchen
We have been at the beach for the last week and enjoying cooking light dishes while here.
We cook a lot at the beach house. It's easy and relaxed as opposed to getting all dressed up to go out….who wants to do makeup at the beach?
There are some dishes that we kind of just throw together. We do plan on writing up formal recipes for these when we get home.
Ashlyn made up this Old Bay Seasoning Fried Chicken. I had it for the first time last night. Y'all…..it is so good! The recipe is to come soon!
We had it over a mixed greens salads with a Homemade Lemon Vinaigrette.
Ashlyn also made a Homemade Guacamole for lunch this week as well. She is so talented!

What I'm Reading
I love to read AND listen to books. If you are looking for a way to get more steps in with your walking…..listen to books! You will want to keep walking to listen. I also listen while doing chores around the house. I will use my earbuds while walking, While in the house I will use a Bluetooth speaker that I can carry around with me or our Alexa.
I read actual printed books as well as on Kindle. I prefer my Kindle, but it is nice to hold a real book occasionally.
I've had my Audible membership for a while, and LOVE it! It gives me one book credit per month.
Let me share with you how I read on Kindle and listen to books as well. Get yourself a library card!
Then add the LIBBY and HOOPLA apps to your phone.
I will typically check to see if a book is available there first before using my credit or buying. Using these 2 apps with your library card is FREE!!! I love FREE.
There may be a waitlist if it is a newer title or popular. That's ok. Sometimes the wait can be lengthy. If I'm not willing to wait, I will just purchase. If it is new or popular, you NEED to finish the book in the allowed checkout time. Sometimes you can renew, and sometimes you may have to get back in the queue. If that happens, when it is available again…..it will download where you left off.
Get in the habit of always carrying a book with you to get in a little extra time. That way if you are waiting at the doctor's office or to get your car serviced….you are prepared!
It was my goal to read more than 12 books last year, and I completed that task. Check out that list which has been updated with my thoughts on the books. Here is my list for 2024.
