This month's Pinterest Challenge is so pretty for a cottage-style vignette. You may find that you already own things to recreate the look. Even a regular basket would work. I purchased this picnic basket several years at my local thrift store. I created this new finish for it that I'll be sharing in next month's thrift store makeover. It's another quick and easy project!

Welcome to another installment of our monthly Pinterest Challenges hosted by my sweet friend, Cindy, from County Road 407

This month for our Pinterest Challenge, we are recreating this lovely cottage basket look from one of my favorite blogs,  Anderson and Grant. Be sure to give the blog a visit. I love this idea! I created my own look using similar elements.

If you are visiting from Decor to Adore, welcome! Laura's home and decor projects are always stunning. I always leave inspired.

MY TAKEAWAY OF THE ELEMENTS USED

  • taller basket with rectangular or oval shape
  • florals
  • quilt

A Pinterest Challenge doesn't get much simpler than this one. While it is a simple look to duplicate, it's big on vintage and cottage style.

Not only did the basket get a really quick makeover for this month's challenge, it motivated me to start decorating the screened porch.

Fortunately for me and this post, my husband got the front and back porches cleaned of all the pollen and winter gunk for me. I normally do this task, but he took it upon himself to do it. It totally made my week. I've been busy painting the guest bedroom. It's a major job with wall color and trim. I have 2 walls completed and 1 last coat of trim before I can move onto another wall.

Can I just say that this post got me distracted and cost me money! LOL!

I've been wanting a new rug for the sitting area in the middle of the screened porch. The one there is just too busy. So I got distracted while decorating the space and plopped right down on the porch with my laptop and started shopping. My new rug is due in today! I'll be featuring it on an upcoming tour. You can see it HERE. I ordered the 6×9 size.

I am really loving how the new finish on the basket turned out. It definitely has a cottage look on my vintage basket.

The hydrangeas are faux that are used all over our house like on these recent posts HERE and HERE.

The quilt was on Ashlyn's bed when she had a more cottage look. It's so classic that I just couldn't get rid of it. This is the first time that it has been used since it was packed up about 5 years ago.

Up next on the tour is my friend, Cindy, from DIY Beautify. Be sure to hop on over there for a visit.

  1. I love how you styled your basket! You nailed the inspiration photo. It looks perfect where you placed it on your porch! i can’t wait to see your new rug too!

  2. Hi Christy! Your porch looks so nice with your basket on it and it’s nice that you have your daughter’s quilt there in it. I’ve been painting for three weeks now, mostly on weekends, but all this past week and into this one. Hubby is on a business trip so it is a good time for me to paint our master bedroom. The bathroom and commode area are all done. 🙂 Baskets might feature in our bedroom, too! Always in need of more storage. 🙂

Happy almost summer to you and enjoy your pretty porch and basket vignette,
    Big hugs,
    Barb 🙂

    1. Thanks so much! Wow, you’ve had the painting bug as well! Are you like me and a little slow going the next day after all that up and down on the ladder? Lol! I bet it’s all looking great!

  3. Christy, your porch with the brick walls, is gorgeous! I love the blue dresser and the whole cottage vibe you’ve created! I could sit out there all day!! Can’t wait to see your basket makeover tutorial!

    1. Thanks so much, Cindy! I love this time of the year for the porch. Soon it will just be a morning and evening porch. Our days I’m sure like yours in Texas are hot and humid!

  4. What a pretty way to use a picnic basket, Christy. You are so fortunate to have a covered porch to enjoy the outdoors. What a fun place to decorate.

  5. LOL Christy, now every time you sit and look at that gorgeous new rug, you’ll think of us and the Pinterest Challenge, right?! 😉 Love how your basket and vignette turned out. That quilt is so happy and summery! And kudos to the hubs for cleaning it off the porch for you. I know that has to be a huuuuuge job! Thank you so much for joining us. It means even more knowing how busy you are. Pinned.

  6. You have a gorgeous porch Christy! Picnic baskets always make me smile and I love the finish you created on this one. Looks like you are ready to entertain in style. Love it and pinned!

  7. As my mom and I were cleaning the deck, patio, and front porch at the lake this past weekend with 30 second cleaner that I learned about from you, I was thinking about your lovely porch and wondering if you had tackled it. It’s great that your husband did it this year freeing you to work on painting indoors. As always, you porch is beautifully decorated and has to be a spot that your family enjoys every single day. Your new rug is beautiful and I’m looking forward to seeing it in place on your summer home tour. The vignette that you created with your picnic basket is perfect for summer!

    1. Thanks so much, Paula! That cleaner is amazing. We buy so much of it! Just discovered that Sam’s now carries it as well. So glad the porches are clean. Now, the really need painting.

  8. HI Christy, I love your porch! So jealous that you can add ferns and furniture to your porch! Our Colorado sun and dry climate make ferns tricky! It looks beautiful! laura

    1. Thanks so much! The ferns have to stay in the shade. My husband would prefer I not get ferns. They make such a mess, but I just have to have a couple. Look into macho ferns. They handle heat better snd do not shed. I have them on my front porch.

I love hearing from you!
