Christmas Family Room

Thanks for sharing!

O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree,
How steadfast are your branches!
Your boughs are green in summer’s clime
And through the snows of wintertime.
O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree,
How steadfast are your branches!

This year in our living area, it is officially the battle of the trees, and I do believe the real Frasier fir has won!

I am so excited to be participating in the annual tour of homes hosted by the talented Marty from A Stroll Thru Life

If you are stopping by from the festivities over at 11 Magnolia Lane, welcome!

I am sharing our Christmas Family Room with you today.

I describe my decorating style as eclectic French country farmhouse style with traditional flair!

Welcome to our home!! I'm Christy. Max and I live on 7 acres in the Upstate of SC with our 2 kids that go to Clemson University. Go TIGERS!  We live in a small, rural town in the area of Greenville out in the country. Greenville is a fabulous bustling city. I love our area. We are a little under an hour from Asheville, NC, have lakes all around, and can be in Charleston in a little over 3 hours.

I had hoped to share a bit more on the tour, but we've had a series of dark days for a while now. Be on the lookout for the kitchen and dining room next week!

We built our home in 2004, and have started to do some minor updating with paint this year. I've still got a long way to go, but I am loving the results. Yes…..I'm the painter!

trees

When you walk into our home you are greeted by this tree. It's been a fixture in the foyer for about 10 years. Do you see Jack? He has a dedicated spot under each tree to curl up and sleep. Yes, I'm a good cat mom. The monster and winner of the battle of the trees is that 12 foot real fir in the back corner. We had to put the baby in a corner because she wouldn't fit anywhere else. We slid her all over the room to try.

Most likely you will always be greeted by Bentley at the door. If the bell rings, he's the first one there……for sure!

plaid ribbon

Create a relaxed look for garlands without bows. Just twist several strands of different plaid ribbons together with floral wire.

The third tree is right by the fire. She is a new addition this year. I'd been wanting a tree by the fireplace forever. Real wouldn't work because we have a real wood-burning fireplace that we use a lot. I didn't want the potential fire hazard or it getting dried out by the heat.

I could have gone taller, but our cat is just a little over a year old. It would have just been too tempting for him to stand on the upstairs balcony and jump into it. Trust me….he's jumped on that upper ledge so I knew he'd do the tree.

The mantel is one of my all-time favorites to date. The lush swag was actually used in our master bedroom last year. It felt a little too full in there but is perfect in here.

The stockings are so special. My later mother-in-law lovingly made them for everyone in the family. My husband and I were married right after Christmas. I had mine for our first Christmas. We celebrate 30 years on the 27th!

stockings

Each of our children had their stockings for their first Christmas! If you notice they got bigger through the years. My husband has always pointed that out. Ha, ha. Ashlyn is our youngest and it's the largest. Ashlyn's stocking was the last one she completed before becoming ill with Alzheimer's.

I can't get over all the cross-stitch. I keep telling myself that I'd like to carry on the tradition for my kids and as they start families one day. One problem……I don't know how to cross-stitch. Do you? I'd love to learn.

family room

This room is quite cozy, especially with the crackling fire.

This thrift store basket that I made over has been hanging out on the coffee table for many seasons now. It makes it so easy to remove the decor for entertaining. We serve food a lot on that coffee table.

tree

The real tree is the one that all of the ornaments that we've collected through the years adorn. Even the ones the kids have made are here. I try to make it feel a bit more pulled together by adding ribbon each year. This year I hung it vertically which is so much easier.

The gallery wall is really coming together with thrift and vintage store art that I've been collecting. I finally hung it this summer.

angel

For many years, the angels were on the mantel. I've had fun moving them around together and solo around the house.

nativity

The sweet nativity was also a thrift store makeover. The set was complete with the exception of the baby Jesus. You can read about how I found one and what I did to unify the mismatched set HERE.

  1. What a beautiful tour, just magical! I am just now getting around to catching up on Christmas posts. I am playing Christmas music and relaxing in my new comfy plaid pjs and pretending Christmas isn’t over. Actually the holidays aren’t over until after New Year’s Day so I am justified, right? I actually just posted the rest of my Christmas home tour on Christmas Day! I think you will like it if you get a chance to head over.

I love the swag on your mantel and the vintage nativity vignette on the side table. Of course it all is amazing.
I hope you had a Merry Christmas and have a blessed New Year!

  2. I love your Christmas and the deer on your mantle are a great statement for your large room.

Love your swag too, so pretty.

Good thing you didn’t get a talker tree with the cat. Would have been a scare for you if he did make a jump for the tree. We always look out for our fur babies.

    Beautiful tour as always.

  3. I love all your traditional decor, especially the plaids. My goal was to use them this year but I got sidetracked, you inspire me to try harder next year. Your home is gorgeous, so many lovely details. Have a wonderful holiday! XO, Amy

    1. Thanks, Debra! Jack is a mess. I have fixed him a nesting place that is present free under each tree. He will be sad when they come down!

  6. Your home is so sparkly and festive – love all your Christmas decor! We decorate our real tree with the collectibles as well. It really does make it so personal. Love the photo of your adorable doggie!
    Cheers!

    1. Thanks so very much, Shelley! That photo happened by chance when I wasn’t even planning on taking his photo! LOL! It usually involves bribery with treats.

  7. Everything is so beautiful, Christy! I love the battle of the trees! I would love to space for two trees! Every detail is perfect!!! Happy Christmas to you and your family!

    1. Thanks so very much, Doreen! I scaled back to one tree a few years back and have gradually added 2 more! LOL! Merry Christmas!

  8. Your home is absolutely stunning! I love all the little and big Christmas touches. Where did you get that beautiful garland on your mantle?

    1. Thanks so very much! The mantel swag came from At Home stores last year. It does have the trailing pieces. I also added some trailing berry pieces that I already had and a few more picks.

I love hearing from you!
