If you order the blouse or other items from The Find Auctions, be sure to use my code JLBJREF for a discount on your first order!

FIT TIP: I am wearing a size medium in the blouse. The jeans are my favorite and have stretch. I've had them for 2 years and the ones that I always reach for. I am wearing a size 8 in them. The shoes are my true size 8. These shoes are so comfortable right out of the box. I have them also in the blush color.

This is the dress that I wore to my son's daytime wedding. I LOVE this dress. I did get it on sale back in June. I will wear it through the fall. It's my favorite piece of clothing that I own!

FIT TIP: I am wearing a size small in the dress.

NEW Weekly Video Series

I've been wanting to get back into doing more videos. I've been waiting to start a new series where I visually share with you some of my favorite things for the week. It is called The Friday Edit. I can't promise that there will be one this coming week with the wedding. I did get the first video out last night. It literally took it all day to upload with our horrible internet. It's about 14 minutes long only because I shared the contents of my toiletry bag. They will not typically be this long. I'd love for you to view it on Facebook! It will also be on YouTube, but it has still not been processed over there yet. Be sure to give me a follow on Youtube as I'm going to be growing that channel.

Wedding Update

Next Saturday is the big day!!! We've ordered a lot of affordable items from Amazon for the reception. I'll be sharing a dedicated blog post on the bridal shower as well as the wedding soon after!

Pet News

puppy in crate

We have a new grandpup! My son and his new wife just got a miniature schnauzer puppy 3 weeks ago. His name is Stark after Tony Stark from Iron Man, my son's favorite superhero. He is the best puppy and absolutely adorable. We sent him this stuffed black support puppy as a gift. It keeps him company in his crate while they are at work. Woods goes home on his lunch break every day to let him out.

He's a feisty little thing. We kept him a couple of weeks ago for the day to take him to the vet for his shots. Ashlyn loves him.

westie with kitten

This story is a little less upbeat. Ashlyn was on her way home from her fiance's apartment Thursday evening when she almost hit this kitten in the road. She stopped and scooped him up.

She took him to our vet yesterday morning. He's a sick little boy. He is only 3 weeks old weighing 13.4 ounces and so fragile.

In the office, they gave him an IV of fluids and nutrition, oral flea meds, oral worm meds, and oral antibiotics + antibiotic eye ointment.

They have him on an emergency wet can food mixed with water every 2-3 hours. Since he readily ate it, he didn't need to be bottle-fed.

swaddled kitten

Last night I held him while we watched TV. He wasn't doing well last night. Didn't eat, warm and lethargic.

tabby kitten in yard

Today has been a better day! He did wake up with sniffles and sneezing. The vet expected this. His eyes are severely infected due to respiratory infection spreading.

He does seem to be seeing some today in that he will swat at your finger in front of him.

The is a chance that he could have to have one of his eyes surgically removed. The vet says that he has seen worse and have had a full recovery.

Ashlyn sat with him in the backyard this morning to let him get a bit of fresh air before the heat of the day.

yellow tabby kitten

He is absolutely precious and so sweet. Ashlyn and Tim paid the vet bill and have plans to keep him. He does go back to the vet again on Wednesday to check his progress. I've cautioned them to not get too attached because he is not out of the woods.

We are hopeful!

Would you believe that I made him a small litterbox out of a rectangular disposable plastic container? We put him in it, and he pottied on the very first try! He goes it in each and every time. We are like little cheerleaders for him.

Say a little prayer for him. I will keep you posted.

I hope the above images didn't sadden or scare you. I decided to share them with the hope that if you see a stray that you'd do what you could to help get him to a shelter. Nothing deserves the suffering as many animals do. It's made me realize that I need to do better.

This little fellow was meant to be. Tim and Ashlyn had decided that when they return from their honeymoon that they were going to adopt an orange tabby kitten. How crazy is that!

In the Kitchen

roasted veggies in bowl

I was home alone for a couple of days this week. I roasted a large sheet pan of veggies that I divided into 4 servings for lunch and dinner.

veggies with fish

I picked up a tray of 2 stuffed tilapia fillets at Publix. It was so good for 2 meals.

What I'm Reading

I love to read AND listen to books. If you are looking for a way to get more steps in with your walking…..listen to books! You will want to keep walking to listen. I also listen while doing chores around the house. I will use my earbuds while walking, While in the house I will use a Bluetooth speaker that I can carry around with me or our Alexa.

I read actual printed books as well as on Kindle. I prefer my Kindle, but it is nice to hold a real book occasionally.

I've had my Audible membership for a while, and LOVE it! It gives me one book credit per month.

Also on OSH!  Saturdays on the Porch #7

Let me share with you how I read on Kindle and listen to books as well. Get yourself a library card!

Then add the LIBBY and HOOPLA apps to your phone.

I will typically check to see if a book is available there first before using my credit or buying. Using these 2 apps with your library card is FREE!!! I love FREE.

There may be a waitlist if it is a newer title or popular. That's ok. Sometimes the wait can be lengthy. If I'm not willing to wait, I will just purchase. If it is new or popular, you NEED to finish the book in the allowed checkout time. Sometimes you can renew, and sometimes you may have to get back in the queue. If that happens, when it is available again…..it will download where you left off.

Get in the habit of always carrying a book with you to get in a little extra time. That way if you are waiting at the doctor's office or to get your car serviced….you are prepared!

It was my goal to read more than 12 books last year, and I completed that task. Check out that list which has been updated with my thoughts on the books. Here is my list for 2024. This is the list of definites for the year. I have a goal of 36 books this year. I will sprinkle in lots of audiobooks as well.

What We've Bought

  • We will be keeping Bentley when Ashlyn gets married. He is her dog. She got him when she turned 15. They are inseparable. She has made the hard decision that it is not fair to make him live in an apartment when all he has known is living here. He loves the backyard. She will take him there for weekend visits and keep him when we travel. Luckily, she is only 30 minutes away. He sleeps with her. We just can't deal with the cat and dog sleeping with us in our queen-sized bed. We bought him this nice bed hoping he will sleep in it at night. It is due to come in today so I will let you know my opinion of it.
  • I've had dark circles all my life. I bought these eye patches to try this week in the days leading up to the wedding.
  • These are the earrings that I am wearing to the wedding next Saturday.
  • I have never had acne problems until I hit menopause. Go figure! I will get the occasional spot on usually the left side of my face, chin, or between eyebrows. They are there for a big show being huge and red. They are typically so red that I can't even completely cover them with concealer. I love using these little disc stickers with medication on them. I'm fighting one right now!
  • My hot glue gun is ancient. I got this one with dual temp settings. I needed it for wedding projects.
  • I got this new band for my Apple watch. It is so pretty. I plan to order a couple more. They are so simple to change out. I did have to take out 3 links. It comes with a tool to remove them.
  • I bought this bracelet for Ashlyn to wear to the rehearsal dinner. It looks so real!
  • I bought myself this tennis bracelet (Ashlyn has in silver and gold) to wear to the wedding with this bangle and this bangle.
  • I'm using this straw clutch at the rehearsal dinner. It's such great quality.
  • Ashlyn is using this clutch for the rehearsal dinner and her honeymoon.
  • This set of 4 nesting seagrass planters.
  • We've bought a lot of wedding supplies from Amazon. I'll be sharing a complete wedding post with what we did for the wedding.

Get the straw clutch HERE. It comes in several colors.

The above bag is the one that I will be using for the rehearsal dinner. It holds my small wallet, iPhone 12 Max Pro with Loopy case, compact, lipstick, kleenex, and mints. I show more of it in the Facebook video The Friday Edit that I mentioned above.

This is the clutch that Ashlyn is using for the rehearsal dinner and her honeymoon. It doesn't hold as much as mine. It is really pretty!

I'm off to work on wedding DIY projects for the big day! Have a fabulous weekend.

  1. That precious little kitten is a real heart tugger. I have a soft spot for kittens for sure. How fortunate that your daughter found him. And thanks for sharing the photos. Some people think it’s humane to “dump” pups and kittens but it’s so horrible how quickly they can deteriorate. I’m praying he’ll rally and then such an amazing adoption story. On another note I started reading The Thursday Murder Club after you mentioned it earlier. Loved it and starting the second book. Love that blouse, too!

    1. Thanks so much, Debra! Being in the country, we’ve always had strays dumped around us. One time we kept 3 puppies that were old enough to be weaned for about a month and our neighbor kept the mother dog that was terrified until the rescue group had room for them. It’s just such a real problem. The kitten seemed a lot better last night and actually walking more. His eyesight is still the major concern. Love the book. After the wedding next Saturday, I hope to jump back into reading. Can’t wait to read the next book. Thank you!

I love hearing from you!
